One of the many cruelties of the animal agriculture industry is that babies are usually separated from their mothers almost immediately after they are born. They’re ripped away to be raised for slaughter, while their mother must go through the same process all over again until the farms decide it is her time to be slaughtered too.
When two lambs were born at a farm and were going to be raised for meat, a volunteer pleaded with her father to save the lambs from their terrible fate. He complied and the two little lambs, Jenny and Maya, ended up at Freedom Farm Sanctuary. While a sanctuary is the best possible place that they could have ended up, the two six-week-old lambs were scared. They wouldn’t go near people and refused to drink from their bottles. The staff did a little investigating and found out that their mother was still at the farm and would soon be slaughtered.
After pressuring the farmer, Freedom Farm Sanctuary was able to convince the farm to surrender Jenny’s and Maya’s mother. When the mother, Mazal, arrived at the sanctuary, she too was scared. But then, she heard the sound of children and called out to them. Finally, the three were back together and would never be separated again. Mazal protected her daughters, licked their faces, and let them nurse. Now the three have a big happy family and love interacting with the sanctuary’s staff and volunteers.
